A Rare and Early dated Wainscot Armchair. Leeds area, 1627
A rare dated Leeds Marquetry Wainscot Chair dated 1627.
It is unusual to find a dated piece of Leeds Marquetry from the reign of James I. This armchair has survived for almost 400 years and bears the scars of time. Probably originally with finials to the top of the back which has losses to the marquetry and to the arcading. Possibly originally with a wood seat although this is by no means certain.
A rare survivor. There may be losses, but all that is present is absolutely original.
