About Us

I was born into a family of Antique Dealers, both sides of the family having been involved in the Antiques Trade back into the late 19th Century. The Myers business developed in Skipton in Yorkshire out of almost Dickensian roots, starting when Richard Nichols Myers bought out his employers business as General Merchants in 1884. Fuelled by the fashion for 'old, beautiful' in the early years of the 20th Century we developed the Antiques business but ran this along side other businesses, particularly the Wool business which my father Harry proudly continued to operate until his death in 1982.

I have been a Dealer and a Collector all my life and have very early memories of buying trips with my parents and with my uncle, Paul Smith the well know Ludlow Dealer, though I think these were loosely described as 'holidays' at the time. I have developed my own taste and interests in the Applied and Decorative Arts and have both a passion for and a strong academic interest in 17th and 18th Century English Furniture and early Works of  Art. I buy pieces with integrity, with good colour and patina and keep restoration to an absolute minimum.

I have no pretensions to be a Decorator and leave that to those who have those skills. I work happily with Decorators, private Collectors and those to whom the world of 'Antiques' is a new experience. I have a passion for the rare, the unusual and the beautiful, for objects and their history and their part in our history and for their ability to bring interest and warmth into a home. That is why I do this.

We have been members of The British Antique Dealers Association since we were elected in 1962 and adhere to its Codes of Practice. This Association represents the finest Antiques Dealers in the Country and demands considerable integrity of members in their dealings with the public.
